What's involved?

Examination

To qualify as a Lift Truck Instructor, delegates must successfully complete all four assessment elements. Candidates should meet the eligibility criteria and have at least six months of operating experience (recommended).

Advanced Operational Competence Test

This test evaluates the candidate’s skills on the Counterbalance Lift Truck to the instructor’s standard. To pass, candidates must score 25 penalty points or fewer. If the candidate does not pass on the first attempt, one additional attempt may be made during the course.

In-class Theory Lesson Delivery

Each candidate will be assigned a lesson topic on the first day of the course. The candidate is required to deliver a 20–25-minute lesson to fellow trainees and the course instructor during the early part of the second week. Although there are no additional attempts allowed, candidates will have time throughout the course to discuss, prepare, and practice before delivering their lesson.

Theory Test

Candidates must take a theory test consisting of 48 questions and achieve a minimum score of 80% to pass. If unsuccessful on their first attempt, candidates are allowed up to two additional attempts during the course. Mock tests will also be provided to help candidates prepare.

Practical Lesson Delivery

On the final day of the course, candidates must deliver a 30-minute practical lesson to an external RTITB examiner. Lesson topics will be assigned on the Wednesday morning of the second week, providing candidates two days to prepare and practice. No additional attempts are allowed during the course.
